Aaron Canwell of the band Micah and Me teaches an all-age class for learning ukulele
The ukulele is a wonderful instrument to learn on; it’s small and unintimidating, and its four nylon strings are easy on the fingers. It’s also portable, satisfying, and a ton of fun!
These workshops/parties are conducted by Aaron Canwell of the band “Micah and Me,” based in St. Helens, OR, near Portland. The group has become a Pacific Northwest staple, playing at fairs, festivals, and museums region-wide. Members have also taught classes at Artichoke Music, the venerable folk music venue in Portland.
Canwell will take a progressive approach, beginning with carefully chosen one-chord songs and ending with a possibly five- or six-chord song, depending on the class. He uses large chord charts to help the class keep their heads up and follow along. It’s a thoughtful, proven approach that could be the launch of a new musical you.
