Rebecca Albiani Previews SAM's "Victorian Radicals" exhibition

Sunday, May 19, 2019

The Frye Museum's Albiani previews Seattle Art Museum's "Victorian Radicals: From the Pre-Raphaelites to the Arts and Crafts Movement," at SAM from June 13 to Sept. 8, 2019.

If your concepts of the Pre-Raphaelites and William Morris are pouty women and flowered wallpaper, join Rebecca Albiani to deepen your knowledge and prepare for Seattle Art Museum’s “Victorian Radicals” exhibition opening June 13.  Rebecca’s lecture will introduce us to the idealistic young artists wh?o founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848.  They employed serious subjects and unflinching realism, with bright, pure colors that hearkened back to early Renaissance examples.  A failed Pre-Raphaelite painter, WIlliam Morris would instead become the greatest designer of the 19th century and the key figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement.  Morris felt art and beauty should belong not merely to the wealthy, but to everyone.  Find out how much we owe to these Victorian visionaries.

Rebecca Albiani has been an arts lecturer at the Frye Art Museum and in the Puget Sound area for the last two decades. She was a Fulbright Scholar in Venice and graduated with honors in Art History from Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley. Her sell-out talks are as dynamic and they are informative; she makes art history come alive.
