About the Library

Mission: The Everett Public Library is the community's gateway to lifelong learning opportunities and experiences that inspire, inform, and entertain.

Founded: 1894 by Woman's Book Club (see Library History)

Governance: Governed by the Board of Library Trustees; 5 members, alternating five year terms appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. Open meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Director's Office.   Members of the Library Board of Trustees and the year their terms expire:

  • John Olson -- 2018

Service area: Residents of the City of Everett, and by reciprocal agreement residents of the City of Seattle and King County, except the City of Enumclaw.

Funding: Funded by the City of Everett General Revenues; operating budget.

Staff: Librarian 17, Other 28, total 45 FTE employees.

        ●  Evergreen Branch  9512 Evergreen Way The south area branch opened as a storefront
             in 1985 followed by a permanent facility in the fall of 1989. Designed by Tom Tredway,
             Dykeman Architects; General Contractor - Stan Palmer Construction Co. Part of 1987 bond
             issue. 8,500 sq ft. (Cost $1,218,195)
        ●  Main Library  2702 Hoyt Ave. Remodel/expansion (part of 1987 bond issue) was
             completed in 1991. Designed by Brad Miller & Richard Cardwell of Cardwell/Thomas
             Architects, and B. Craig Thompson of The Dykeman Architects. Interior by Kelli Smith of
             The Dykeman Interiors. Craftsman Reproduction Furnishings by Alan Cole / Cole
             Woodworking. General Contractor-Cree Construction Co. 53,000 sq ft library space,
             50,000 sq ft parking (117 vehicles), 75 seat auditorium. (Cost $9,503,037)
